Luna’s ER Trip

What a sweet smile to illustrate this story! Luna’s broken arm was treated by an orthopedic traumatologist, a specialist who can expertly handle fractures within moments of injury.

In some hospitals, she’d have been patched up and referred to see an orthopedist days later, but Luna was on the fast track to healing at Cape Fear Valley.

You can read about her experience here.

Two of Hearts

He turned his survival into a healthcare career, and she has jumped into advocacy for heart-health research. They both want you to know that a serious heart problem doesn’t always look or feel like you’d expect.

Patient Profile, Making Rounds magazine

I spend a lot of time writing about physicians and pharmaceuticals and fancy medical equipment—but my favorite healthcare stories are about the patients themselves.

Here’s a man who persevered through World War 2 and cancer, and has now helped to establish a program that supports other veterans going through cancer care at Cape Fear Valley Health in Fayetteville, N.C.

Greatest generation indeed!

“UNTAMED,” Season 2 on VPM

The projects I do with VPM are some of my all-time favorites. We just finished collaborating on the second season of “UNTAMED,” which is all about the Wildlife Center of Virginia and the animals they treat.

They have a very talented team that puts the show together, and from their research I wrote an article to accompany each episode. I learned so much about the animals that live around us, and how to be a better neighbor to them.

Making Rounds, Spring 2019

Cape Fear Valley Health is a multi-facility hospital system that serves the Fayetteville/Fort Bragg area of North Carolina—my hometown! Their quarterly magazine is chock-full of patient stories and news about their expanding healthcare technology.

It’s also loaded with patient-focused healthcare content, which has been my specialty for more than 15 years.

Here are some pieces I wrote for their latest issue:
